Vegard Karlsen Scores Second Goal of the Season For the Dons

(San Diego) – USF men's soccer opened up its final road trip of the season with a 2-1 setback at San Diego in West Coast Conference action Friday night at Torero Stadium. The Dons (3-11-3, 1-7-2 WCC) gave up an early goal, found the equalizer, but the Toreros (7-7-3, 4-4-2 WCC) struck late in the first overtime period to complete the season series sweep.

Marcelo Carminatti scored in the seventh minute sending a feed from James Cohn to the lower left corner to give USD the 1-0 early advantage. The Toreros held a 4-0 shot advantage in the first half.

San Francisco found an equalizer in the 62nd minute on a penalty kick by Vegard Karlsen. It was the second goal of the season for the freshman Norwegian midfielder.

San Diego answered in the 96th minute. Patrick Wallen took a pass from Sergio Carranza and rifled a shot from the top of the box for the game-winner. USD held a 9-3 shot advantage and held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks for the match.

USF closes out the 2010 season when it takes on Loyola Marymount. Game time against the Lions is set for noon in Los Angeles at Sullivan Field.
