SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The San Francisco men's soccer team posted a resounding 2-0 shutout over Loyola Marymount on the fleet feet of two first-time goal scorers this season in Jacob Talarman and Jesus Del Toro under the lights of Negoesco Stadium.

With the win, the Dons move to 5-4-2 on the season (3-2-0 WCC) and Loyola Marymount drops to 3-9-2 (1-4-1 WCC).

The first score of Dia de los Dons Hispanic heritage night came from junior forward Talarman's flight down the center line. The Concord, Calif., native entered the game in the 31st minute and got straight to work. Talarman intercepted the ball from the defense and raced down the field to boot in his first goal of the season in the game's 41st minute.

The striker outran his opponents to go one-on-one with LMU keeper Paul Blanchette, who could not stop the bulleted shot from finding its mark.  Four more tries found their way to the gloves of Blanchette in the first period, but the senior from Palo Alto, Calif., played stingy defense for the Lions. The Dons held the 1-0 advantage heading into halftime, with USF maintaining a 6-3 advantage on shots in the period.

The capping score of the night was a 40-yard bomb off the foot of midfielder Jesus Del Toro, from Novato, Calif. Del Toro's arching kick found its way past Blanchette and into the net to send the crowd of 521 into a cheering frenzy in the 84th minute of the match. This marks the freshman's first goal for the green and gold.

LMU was aggressive in the closing minutes but the USF defense held firm and preserved Brendan Roslund's clean sheet in goal. Three of the Don's matches have come in shutout fashion and Roslund's goals-against average is a stalwart 0.93 to go with 38 total saves on the season. USF posted an impressive 14-5 shot advantage with Talarman's four total, and three on goal, leading the pack. Three others, Miguel Aguilar, Mauricio De Leon and Del Toro, had at least two attempts on the night.

USF returns to the pitch at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday for a PINK Week matchup against San Diego at Negoesco Stadium.
