DAVIS, Calif.—A UC Davis goal in the first five minutes of the game proved to be the deciding factor as USF fell 1-0 to the Aggies on Sunday evening.

In the fifth minute, Matt Sheldon found a loose ball in the penalty box and drilled it dead center for the goal to give UC Davis the 1-0 lead. It was Sheldon's second goal of the season.

The Dons (3-2-1) had a few good looks in the second half. Shortly into the second period, Jesus Del Toro, who scored the game-winning goal against San Jose State last week, had his header saved by Aggies goalie Omar Zeenni.

USF trailed late in the second half for the second straight match and nearly recreated some of the magic seen in its Thursday contest against Sacramento State. In the 85th minute, Mauricio Diaz De Leon delivered a corner kick and found Kyle MacLeod but his shot went wide left. Diaz De Leon had another corner kick in the 89th minute but the Dons could not take advantage.

All seven of USF's shots against UC Davis came in the second half.

UC Davis had opportunities on consecutive possessions in the second half to increase their lead. In the 69th minute, Ryan Gross had his shot saved by Connor Gaal and on the ensuing possession Alex Aguilar was also denied by the USF goalkeeper.

The Dons have allowed four goals this season and no team has scored more than one in any game.

The Dons will get another crack to get into the win column on the road when they play Cal Poly on Friday, which will be their final preseason test before the beginning on West Coast Conference play.
