MORAGA, Calif. – The San Francisco women's tennis team faced its second-straight ranked opponent, falling to Saint Mary's 7-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Korth Tennis Complex.
The USF duo of
Andrea Ka and
Marina Nikolic took an 8-5 victory from the Gaels' top tandem of Jenny Jullien and Parminder Kaur, as the Dons' lone win on the day. Playing in the No. 1 doubles position for just the third time in the spring, Ka and Nikolic moved to 13-3 in the dual match season. The pair now stands at 2-1 from the No. 1 position and a perfect 4-0 in West Coast Conference play. The twosome has posted wins in seven straight matches, and nine of their last 10 contests.
Despite the victory from Ka and Nikolic, the Dons dropped the doubles point heading into the day's singles action. The Gaels clinched the win after earning the next three points in straight-set victories.
Thyra Taune and Nikolic both battled to three sets before falling to their Saint Mary's opponents as the Dons were swept for just the second time in the dual match season.
The No. 42 Gaels have shut out their last two opponents, and four of their last five, moving to 8-6 on the season, and 3-1 in WCC action. The Dons now stand at 11-6 (1-4 WCC).
The Dons attempt to snap a two-match losing streak as the team travels to San Diego for a Tuesday afternoon date with the Toreros. First serve is slated for 1:30 p.m.
