Dons Split Matches in Southern California

HERMOSA, Calif. – The San Francisco Dons split its pair of team dual matches at the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge on Saturday at Hermosa Beach Pier, rallying from a morning defeat at the hands of No. 4 UCLA to earn the sweep of Concordia in their afternoon match.

The sweep of the Eagles was USF's second on the season, as each pair earned straight-set wins. The most dominating performances on the scoreboard came at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions. The Croatian pairing of Katarina Pilepic and Jurja Vlasic teamed up to take down Marissa Boyd and Amber Rose, 21-19, 21-9. The No. 3 duo of Courtney Sabahi and Emily Reed used a 21-8 win in the first set over Kyra Auten and Taylor Dennison and finished off the point with a 21-13 win in the second in favor of USF.

In the afternoon, the pairs tournament commenced and Sabahi and Reed picked up where they left off against Concordia. The tandem defeated Lexi Jasper-Baylin and Kelly Anna Geiser of UCLA, 21-18, 21-16, in the first round of the silver bracket. The two are slated to take on the No. 3 pairing from USC on Saturday at 10:30 a.m, in the second round of action. All of the USF pairs hit the beach in bracket play Sunday morning in their respective brackets.

The Dons conclude its regular season in team play with an overall record of 14-3, a program-best winning percentage (.824), and a No. 13 ranking in the latest DiG Magazine polls. Next in team competition, the Dons travel to the West Coast Conference Championship April 22-23, in Santa Monica, Calif.
