SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco men's soccer team defeated Stanislaus State, 1-0, in its exhibition opener on Friday at Negoesco Stadium.
"Stanislaus State was an athletic team that caused us a lot of problems. The result is secondary but we played well enough to win," said head coach
Eddie Soto.Â
Junior midfielder
Sean Bowman scored in the 82
nd minute off a corner kick by freshman
Seamus McLaughlin to break the scoreless match. Bowman headed in the corner kick under the Stanislaus State goalkeeper Patrick Colombana.
Three Dons goalkeepers,
Ruben Stuiver,
Andre Glasnovic and
Jay Roundtree combined to shutout the Warriors.Â
"Right now, it's about recovering with the quick turnaround for Sunday's game. It's an extension of our preseason. We'll get ready and see what we have and what need to work on in preparation of our game against UCLA on August 26," said Soto.
