SAN FRANCISCO — The first West Coast Conference match of the season was a complete dominating offensive effort by the University of San Francisco men's soccer team, taking down San Diego, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Negoesco Stadium.
San Francisco (3-7-1, 1-0-0 WCC) got off to a strong start, when freshman
Ashish Chattha scored the Dons first goal of the match that led San Diego (4-6-1, 0-1-0 WCC) 1-0 at the fifth minute. A couple of seconds before Chattha struck the ball into the backend of the net,
Jorge Ruiz found his way inside the box and attempted a shot that bounced off of the goalkeeper, as the ball landed right in front of Chattha's foot for the wide open shot. Chattha recorded his first collegiate goal for San Francisco.
To begin the second half, the Toreros recorded back-to-back shot attempts trying to get past
Ruben Stuiver, but the Dons' answered and scored its second goal of the draw with just 10 minutes into the second period. It all started when
David Polson launched a corner kick across the box and found Santiago DiGiuseppe who then kicked the ball in the center of the box to where it was high enough for
Noah Leong to head the ball inside the net amongst a cluster of players to extend the Dons' lead, 2-0. Leong recorded his second goal of the season.
At the 59th minute, San Diego began to trail the match 2-1, after San Francisco was issued a yellow card and Torero's Miguel Berry scored the goal off of a penalty kick. San Francisco kept San Diego to four shot attempts the rest of the period to seal its 2-1 victory.
