SAN FRANCISCO — The University of San Francisco men's soccer team could not stop UC Irvine's offensive pressure from the beginning to the end of the match, as the Dons fell 4-1, Thursday night at Negoesco Stadium.
At the 5th minute, UC Irvine scored its first goal off a corner kick where
Ruben Stuiver missed the save that ended up landing at the foot of Jose Soto who kicked it straight into the net to lead USF, 1-0.Â
Soto did it again for the Anteaters when he found his way past the Dons defense and set himself comfortably at the top of the box for a shot that extended UCI's lead 2-0 at the 21st mark.Â
Just 10 minutes into the second half, UC Irvine added two more shots on the board in a matter of three minutes. At the 70th minute, Jose Ortiz found Daniel Crisostomo 18-yards out where he launched the ball to the top left backend of the net for the 3-0 lead. Then, at the 73rd mark Ivan Canales received a pass from Lawrence Yamaguchi from the top of the box where Canales kicked the ball directly to the left side of the net for the Anteaters final goal of the night.Â
San Francisco's
Santiago Sarmiento was able to sneak in a goal off a free kick from 20-yards out as the ball went above the goalkeeper's head for the Dons first goal of the match at the 85th mark.Â
