SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The University of San Francisco men's soccer team battled its rival in the South Bay to a scoreless draw after 45 minutes. Unfortunately for the Dons (2-11-1/0-4-0 WCC), the Broncos (8-5-1/2-2-0 WCC) scored the game's only goal midway through the second half to secure a 1-0 win Wednesday night at Stevens Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Defensively, the Dons kept the Broncos off the scoreboard for the first 64 minutes of the game. The Broncos outshot the Dons 8-1 in the opening half, but none of those shots were on goal, as USF's defenders refused to allow the Broncos a good look at the net.
• In the 65
th minute the Broncos scored the game's only goal, when Javier Ruiz Duran took a pass from Sam Agosti and with his left foot sent a shot to the low far post to beat
Ruben Stuiver (1-10).
• Stuiver finished the night with four saves, all coming in the second half. Offensively, the Dons had their chances after the intermission. USF finished the night with eight shots, seven in the second half.
Jonah Van Der Werf led the team with three shots on the night. Taika Kajitani had the Dons lone shot on goal.
