FRESNO, Calif. — The University of San Francisco men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision on the road to Fresno State on Saturday at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs (7-2) swept through the doubles point with quick wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots. Zdenek Derkas and Dario Huber beat the Dons' duo of
Stevie Gould and
Nitzan Ricklis, 6-1 at No. 2, and Alexey Aleschev and Reece Falck defeated USF's
Phuc Huynh and
Mitch Johnson, 6-2 at No. 3.
Fresno State clinched the sweep with wins at the No. 3, 1 and 6 singles spots. Angus Bradshaw beat Gould, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3 for the first result. Derkas beat Ricklis, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 1 singles match. And Henrique Osorio downed
David Woodland, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. Both Huynh (No. 4) and Johnson (No. 5) forced a third set in their respective singles matchups before going unfinished with the match clinched.
"It was a tough one for the Dons today," said San Francisco head coach
JT Sundling. "Fresno State came out with a sense of urgency from the start and got ahead of us early. We started to dig in and make the match physical, but we started to rally too late."
San Francisco next participates in the Golden State Invitational, hosted by Sacramento State on Friday and Saturday.
