LAST TIME OUT:
  • Kicking off the regular season with a home matchup against Sacramento State, the Dons used the strength of a career-night from 2020-21 WCC Freshman of the Year Nonso Adimabua to power past the Hornets as the forward logged his first career game with two goals in USF's 2-1 win. Striking early, Adimabua got the Dons on the board with his first goal in the 17th minute before he followed up with his second goal of the first half less than twenty seconds prior to the halftime break. Notably, the USF defense was able to pitch a shutout in the second half as the Dons hung on to notch a win in their season opener for the first time since 2018.
  • In his first minutes of collegiate action, freshman goalkeeper Charlie McKay shined with a .750 save percentage and three overall saves, allowing just the one penalty goal against the Hornets.
  • As a team, USF outshot Sacramento State, 11-8, while also drawing 17 total fouls against the Hornets. Notably, it was also USF's first win over the Hornets since a 2-1 home victory on Sept. 9, 2012.
SCOUTING THE BRUINS:
  • To begin the fall, UCLA will play seven of the first eight contests in the comfort of their home venue. Overall, the Bruins will return 10 of their 11 starters from last spring, including all eight players who scored a goal for UCLA in the shortened 2020-21 season.
  • During preseason play, UCLA tallied a perfect 2-0-0 record, taking down NAIA-member Westmont, 3-0, before recording another shutout victory, 1-0, over Cal Poly this past Saturday. In the two matches, the Bruins outshot their opponents 28-6.
  • Looking ahead, UCLA is anchored by three all-conference talents in midfielder Riley French, center back Ahmed Longmire and left back Tommy Silva. Notably, forwards Grayson Doody and Kevin Diaz also both registered multi-goal campaigns last spring as well.

SERIES HISTORY:
  • Notably, UCLA owns a 25-19-5 all-time record against San Francisco, with USF holding the record for most single-game goals by a UCLA opponent, having notched six scores in a 1971 showdown.
  • Matching up in three of the last four years, the Bruins defeated the Dons, 3-0, in their last meeting on Feb. 8, 2021 in Los Angeles. Overall, USF holds a 1-4 record against UCLA since the 2006-07 season, with their lone win over the Bruins coming in a 1-0 shutout victory in Los Angeles on Sept. 2, 2018.
