Dons Come Up Short in Davis

DAVIS, Calif. -- Playing in their final non-conference match of the season, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (1-6) fell short against UC Davis (3-5), 4-1, on Thursday evening at Aggie Soccer Field.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Although UC Davis' Maximillian Arfsten impressed by recording a hat trick within the first 30 minutes of action, the Dons got on the board at the 36:08 mark of the contest on a goal from Nonso Adimabua, which was assisted by first-year Don Ferdy Ghafury.
  • Building on their lead, the Aggies scored their fourth goal within the same minute as Adimabua's strike when Ryan Dieter extended their lead back to three at the 36:51 mark. Holding steady on defense, UC Davis would carry a 4-1 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • Moving into the second half, USF stayed on the attack for the remainder of the match as the Dons outshout the Aggies 9-2 in the final 45 minutes of action.
  • Ultimately, it was the UC Davis defense that proved to be the difference maker as they were able to keep USF off the scoreboard during the second half and maintain their three-point advantage. Giving it their all until the final whistle, the Aggies would hang on to defeat the Dons by the same score, 4-1.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • On the attack throughout the match, Adimabua scored his team-leading third goal of the season against UC Davis on Wednesday while also tallying five total shots, including two on goal. Overall, he currently ranks tied for third in the WCC with three goals while also solely sitting in third with 22 total shots on the year. Notably, his nine shots on goal this fall are also good for fourth in the conference.
  • Beginning a new journey, Ghafury logged his first collegiate assist and point against the Aggies by assisting on Adimabua's goal in the 37th minute.
  • Making his first start in the cage this season, Brandon Keniston enjoyed a busy night in goal as he was able to secure seven saves during 90 minutes of action.
