DONS AT A GLANCE:
- Beginning their Southern California road trip last weekend, the Dons have dropped two consecutive matches heading into Monday after falling to UCLA in overtime on Sunday, Aug. 29 and at UCSB on Friday, Sept. 3. Despite the loss, Tamba Di Mattia and Tobias Wangerud recorded their first collegiate shots against UCSB on Friday. For Di Mattia, it was also the first start of his career at USF.
- Playing in just their fourth match of the season, USF is aiming to secure their first road win of the fall. Overall, the Dons are searching for their first season with a winning road record since 2017, when the team finished 6-5 away from Negoesco Stadium.
- Looking ahead, USF will continue their stretch of road games as they will not return home until Oct. 9 vs. Saint Mary's. In the meantime, the Dons will play four more matches away from home following Monday's contest- Sept. 17 at Cal State Fullerton, Sept. 19 at UC Riverside, Sept. 22 at UC Davis and Oct. 2 at Santa Clara.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS:
- In their last time on the pitch, Cal Poly played to a 1-1 tie in their home opener against San Diego State on Friday, Sept. 3. Scoring the lone point of the match for the Mustangs, forward Max Kleinhammes delivered the equalizer in the 55th minute to even things up for Cal Poly. As a team, the Mustangs outshout the Aztecs, 12-7, with 6 of their shots on target.
- Notably, Cal Poly's 2-1 victory at Saint Mary's on Aug. 30 marked head coach Steve Sampson's 100th collegiate victory. Sampson, who finished 64-19-19 with Santa Clara from 1986-90, owns 36 victories with the Mustangs and a career 100-62-31 mark at the collegiate level.
- Overall, Cal Poly will host their second match of a three-game home stand against the Dons on Monday as they are set to welcome Grand Canyon on Thursday, Sept. 16.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Matching up for just the fifth time at the Division I level, Cal Poly currently holds a 2-1-1 advantage over USF in the all-time series. Last time out, the two teams ended in a scoreless draw on Sept. 30, 2019 at Negoesco Stadium.
