Dons Prepare to Face Sacramento State and Air Force

SACRAMENTO/SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- As we reach the midway point of the college soccer season, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (5-0-2) is back in action looking to remain unbeaten as the Dons will travel east on Thursday afternoon to take on the Sacramento State Hornets (5-1-2) before returning home to Negoesco Stadium on Sunday afternoon to face the Air Force Falcons (0-4-2) in a matinee matchup.

Last week the Dons were able to come away with a couple of dominant victories as they took care of the Cal Poly Mustangs 6-0 at home last Monday before hitting the road for the first time this season as they won 3-0 against CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners. It was a tremendous week for senior defender Nathan Simeon as he currently leads the nation with eight assists as he was able to record four assists last week with two apiece against the Mustangs and Roadrunners.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • USF currently enjoys their seating at the top of the conference standings throughout non-conference play as they along with Portland remain the only West Coast Conference programs still undefeated.
  • Senior forward Arjan Dosanjh and senior midfielder Dominic Valdivia have been huge assets to the Dons' offensive attack so far this season with both student-athletes scoring three goals so far this season while Valdivia has contributed a pair of assists while Dosanjh has been credited with one assist this year.
  • In goal for USF, senior transfer Eric Waltz has been a key addition for the green and gold this season as he's third in the WCC with 25 total saves and only four total goals allowed securing the back line of USF's defense.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS:
  • The Dons second road match of the season will have them facing a quality opponent on their home field who has lost just one match so far this season they've taken on four WCC opponents so far this season as they've played against Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, Pacific and Saint Mary's.
  • Junior midfielder Francisco Magana has been a key piece of the Hornets leading the way with four goals so far this season, including a hat trick during the team's home victory over Gonzaga.
  • In goal, the Hornets have split time between redshirt freshman Edgar Guerra and sophomore Mac Learned with each starting four matches this season with Learned receiving the assignment in goal for his team's two previous matches. As a unit, the duo has combined for 20 saves this season and 0.645 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS:
  • The Falcons are off to a sluggish start to their 2022 season as they're still seeking their first victory of the year as they've played four top 25 programs through non-conference play this far.
  • Junior forward Thaddeus Dewing has been the focal point of Air Force's offensive attack this season as he's scored four of the Falcons' five goals so far this season and is the team leader with eight points on the season.
  • In goal, senior John Byszewski has put together a tremendous season attempting to keep Air Force in their first six matches as he's been able to record 26 total saves to go along with a .703 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • USF and the Hornets will be facing off for the sixth time in each program's history with the Dons posting a 2-3-1 overall record in those meetings, but were able to secure the win in both team's last match as the Dons secured the 2-1 victory last August on the Hilltop.
  • Sunday's match will mark the third time the Dons and Falcons have faced off with USF holding a 1-2 record as Air Force won the previous matchup in Colorado by a 2-1 final score.
