Dosanjh's First Career Goal Lifts Dons Over Titans

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Remaining perfect at home, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (3-0-1) used a goal in the 45th minute and strong team defense to pitch their second shutout of the year and defeat Cal State Fullerton (3-1-0), 1-0, on Monday evening at Negoesco Stadium.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Firing on offense right out of the gates, Max Hamelink recorded the first two matches of the contest at 3:55 and 5:26, but was unable to get the Dons on the board early.
  • Continuing to apply pressure as the action continued, USF dominated on the offensive end in the first half as they outshout Fullerton 11-2, but it was not until the final minute of the half that the green and gold would strike. Heading the ball into the back of the net on a beautiful cross from Nathan Simeon, Arjan Dosanjh tallied his first collegiate goal at 44:25 to give USF a 1-0 advantage heading into the locker room.
  • Aiming to transfer their momentum into the second half, Dominic Valdivia ripped the first three shots of the half, but was ultimately denied by the Titan defense.
  • Defending their home turf as the match transpired, USF continued to attack the opposing goal, but also played stellar defense of their own at the same time. In the second half, the Dons outshout Fullerton once more (9-7) while goalkeeper Eric Waltz saved all five of the Titans' shots on goal.
  • Holding on to notch their third win of the season and second shutout at home, USF secured the 1-0 victory to hand Fullerton their first loss of the year.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Coming up clutch with the perfectly placed header inside of the box, Dosanjh scored for the first time in his career on the Hilltop after returning from a grueling knee injury last season.
  • In the cage, Waltz recorded a season-high five saves against Fullerton as he denied the Titan attack throughout the full 90 minutes.
  • Notably, freshman Zane Alafranji made his first start in the green and gold while Elias Thomas returned to the starting lineup since Oct. 23 of last season.
