Men’s Soccer Falls to Saint Mary’s

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – In its first game back on the Hilltop in three weeks, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (7-3-5, 1-2-2) fell to Saint Mary's (7-6-2, 2-3) 3-0 Saturday evening at Negoesco Stadium.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • San Francisco began firing early to start the match, with shots by Max Hamelink and Olivier Sylvain coming in the fourth and ninth minutes, respectively.
  • Defense was essential for both teams in the middle of the half, as neither could attempt a shot between the 15th and 31st minutes.
  • The Dons had back-to-back shots on-target in the 39th minute by Zane Alafranji and Gabriel Bracken Serra.
  • In the 43rd minute, the green and gold had two more shots on-target by Bracken Serra and Reid Roberts.
  • Neither team could score in the first half of play, and the Dons headed into the break in a scoreless tie.
  • In the 55th minute of the match, Gaels' defender Toke Amtrup scored the first goal of the game, giving Saint Mary's a 1-0 lead.
  • Saint Mary's was able to add to its advantage with goals in the 60th and 65th minutes, pushing the lead to three.
  • Despite the Dons having multiple opportunities to find the back of the net, they could not score, and the Gaels held onto their lead for the victory.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • For the 10th consecutive game, Ramon Munoz saw all 90 minutes of action on the pitch tonight. Bracken Serra played all 90 minutes for the sixth time this season.
  • Alex Solomis played a career-high 20 minutes in the match, and Kian Jones fired off his first shot of the season.
