MALIBU, Calif. - Back on the road this weekend, the University of San Francisco Dons beach volleyball team (0-5) will travel to Southern California to compete in the two-day 2023 Malibu Invitational on March 11 and 12. The Dons will start the tournament against the Arizona Wildcats (5-2, 1-0), on Saturday March 11, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a matchup against the UAB Blazers (5-4) on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
Starting the second day down in Malibu, the Dons will take on North Florida Ospreys (5-3) at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday March 12. USF's final opponent is a WCC matchup with the Pepperdine Waves (3-1) at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. All matches will be played at Zuma Beach in Malibu, Calif.
This will be the Dons second tournament away from home this season and they are looking to secure their first win of the seasom. Coming close in their last outing at the WCC/Big West tournament, USF was able to get two wins on the board against Sacramento State. Although the Dons fell short on March 4 with a final score of 3-2 against the Hornets, both
McKenna Towne and Letzia Aquilino and
Branson Lennon and
Claire Crijns gained individual victories.
For the series history against these four teams, this will mark the second time the Dons will face the Arizona Wildcats who they lost to 5-0 in their first matchup on February 21, 2020. USF and UAB will face off for the first time in their program's history. Additionally, North Florida will compete against the Dons for the first time as well. WCC opponent, Pepperdine has faced off against USF beach volleyball only twice, winning both matchups.
