Easley’s Goal Carries Dons to Victory on Senior Night

Box Score SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Closing out the regular season on a high note, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (6-6-4, 5-1-3 WCC) blanked Bay Area rival Santa Clara (5-7-3, 2-3-2 WCC), 1-0, on Saturday night as the Dons shutout the Broncos at Negoesco Stadium.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Santa Clara came out fast to open the match as SCU tallied back-to-back shots just three minutes into the contest. Answering back, Adrian Medina took the first rip of the night for San Francisco, but the midfielder was blocked at the 6:26 minute mark.
  • Gaining momentum on the attack, David Raphael logged a shot on frame at 37:32, but the freshman was denied by opposing goalkeeper Jackson Ozburn. Just minutes later, Isaiah Easley's header found the back of the net from a cross by Kian Jones at 40:56 to give the green and gold a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
  • Coming out of the locker room, Santa Clara fired the first shot of the second half at the 49 minute mark as they looked to get on the scoreboard, but SCU was ultimately turned away. After earning a free kick, San Francisco recorded their first chance of the half as Joe Core headed the ball towards the cage at 60:04, but the graduate transfer missed just wide of the goal.
  • Nearing the 80th minute, Junhwan Park notched a header that ricocheted off the crossbar as the freshman nearly scored a goal himself, but the ball was quickly corraled by Ozburn. Continuing their attack, Easley tallied another shot at 83:13, but the forward was blocked on the attack. Shortly thereafter, Santa Clara responded with a shot on frame at 83:44, but Eric Waltz delivered when it mattered most to make his second save of the match and keep SCU off the scoreboard.
  • Holding onto their one goal advantage through the final whistle, San Francisco picked up their fifth shutout of the season to secure a 1-0 victory over Santa Clara.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Proving to net the game winner, Easley recorded his fourth goal of the season on Saturday night as the Clemson transfer finishes his first year in the green and gold tied for second on the team in goals.
  • In his final home match as a Don, Waltz recorded his third shutout of the season as the San José native made two saves on two shots on goal and 13 shots faced.
  • Overall, six players recorded at least one shot for San Francisco, tallying a team total of seven on the night - Easley (2), Core (1), Medina (1), Raphael (1), Park (1) and Reid Roberts (1).
