Bluejays Topple Dons in High Scoring Affair

OMAHA, Neb. - The University of San Francisco men's soccer team (0-2-2) battled back with two second half goals on the road at Creighton (2-0-2) on Sunday evening, but the Blue Jays ultimately went on to top the Dons, 4-2, at Morrison Stadium.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Reid Roberts took the first shot of the game for the Dons at the 21:01 mark, but the junior was stopped by Creighton's keeper, Blake Gillingham.
  • After 32 minutes of play, the Bluejays were awarded a penalty kick and Jackson Castro converted it to go up 1-0.
  • Right before the halftime whistle at the 44-minute mark, Gavrilo Civric scored off of a corner kick from Roman Torres as Creighton took a 2-0 lead going into the break.
  • Coming back strong immediately in the second half, San Francisco wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as TJ Knight netted USF's first goal at the 47:52 mark off of an assist from Mason Dougherty.
  • The green and gold kept their foot on the gas offensively as Junhwan Park scored his first collegiate goal to tie the match less than ten minutes later at 54:17 following assists from Elias Thomas and Kian Jones.
  • Punching back to defend their home field, Creighton was able to put away two more goals to regain their lead with one at the 58-minute mark and the final coming at 66:15. Brayden Beason took the final shot on goal for the Dons at 83:51, but San Francisco ultimately fell to the Blue Jays, 4-2.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • San Francisco came back from having only two shots in the first half to outshooting Creighton overall, 13-11, which included seven shots on goal. Notably, they've outshot their opponents in all four of their matches this season.

  • Following his first collegiate goal on Sunday, Park and fellow freshman David Raphael are now tied for the team lead in shots on goal (3).
