Chaboche and Spyrou Named to 2025 WCC Women's Cross Country Preseason Team

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Faustine Chaboche and Vasileia Spyrou have been named to the 2025 West Coast Conference Women's Cross Country Preseason Team, announced by the league Thursday morning.

"After impressive spring track campaigns, Faustine and Vasileia will make their WCC cross country debuts this fall and expect to be among the top runners in the conference," Head Coach Jordan Carpenter said. "These preseason awards are a testament of the work these two have put in, and it is always great to see our athletes recognized by the conference coaches for what they have done leading into a new fall season."

Along with the individual accolades, the women's program has been selected to finish fourth out of the 12-team conference field and earned two first-place votes in the 2025 WCC Women's Cross Country Coaches Poll.

Chaboche, entering her first season with the program, comes to the Hilltop after competing for the women's cross country team at SMU. While with the Mustangs, Chaboche competed in nine meets over two seasons, highlighted by a sixth-place finish with a time of 15:00.7 at the Opener at the Seashore on August 30, 2024, her best-ever 4K finish to date.

She also added career-bests in the 5K with a time of 17:52.6 at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival on September 30, 2023, and in the 6K at 20:32.4 on October 18, 2024, during the Arturo Barrios Invitational at Texas A&M.

Despite not participating for the Dons in 2024, Spyrou enters her second season with the program after a stellar four-year career at Florida. During her time with the Gators, she competed in 12 meets, including guiding the team to a Southeastern Conference (SEC) Women's Cross Country title in 2023, the program's seventh conference title.

Kickstarting her collegiate career on a high note in 2020, Spyrou set bests in the 5K and the 6K in her lone two regular-season appearances. In her first-ever 5K race, she secured an eighth-place finish with a time of 17:12.5 at the Florida State Invitational on October 2, 2020. She followed with another eighth-place mark two weeks later at the Blazer Classic, completing the 6K race with a time of 20:28.5.

Concluding an impressive first season with the Gators with a 17th-place finish out of 125 competitors at the SEC Cross Country Championship, Spyrou was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team, the lone team member to earn the honor. She also secured one SEC Freshman Runner of the Week selection during the regular season.
