Alexander Roboostoff

USF Career Years: 1967-1972

Alex Roboostoff was born on May 1, 1943 in Shanghai, China, the oldest of three brothers. To escape communist rule, the family relocated to Australia in 1952 where the three brothers learned to play soccer. They moved to the United States in 1960. Alex Roboostoff never graduated from high school, but obtained his GED and while serving in Germany, played soccer on the United States Army team during the 1960s. He was recruited to USF by Steve Negoesco, who coached his younger brother Constantin in the Daly City Police Athletic League. All three Roboostoff brothers played for USF under Coach Negoesco. Alex scored 23 goals in 1968.

At USF, he was a two-time First Team All-Conference in 1967 and 1968. He was a member of the 1969 NCAA Finals team. He was a three-time NSCAA All-American, and received Honorable Mention twice.

Alex was a member of the 1968 United States Olympic team, and was the second leading scorer. He was invited to the 1972 Olympics, but was unable to attend, and his brother Archie went in his place. He played in the Pan American games in 1970 and in 1972. After USF, he continued playing soccer for local leagues, the San Francisco Greek American Team and the Pacific Coast All-Stars. In 1972, he was drafted by North American Soccer league in February, 1972.

He was the owner of the office supply business, General Office Systems, started in 1974. He was Inducted into the USF Hall of Fame in 1982. He was inducted into the Daly City Police Athletic League Hall of Fame in 2013 alongside his brothers.
