Raymond Charles Peterson was born on June 27, 1913, in Fort Bragg, CA and attended his local Fort Bragg High School, where he was in the Drama Club. At 6’, 190 lbs., he played as a tailback for USF from 1933 to 1937.

There were footballs in the air. And Coach Spud Lewis was watching in tacit approval the antics of his Dons in their first week of spring practice. Dal Marvil and Ray Peterson were exchanging kicks up and down field, only Peterson gave Marvil the worst of the workout. Lewis mentioned several changes in policy, and many new plans for his third year, which should be his harvest year on the Hill. In the first place, Eddie King, whom Lewis lauded as the best halfback here at the end of the last season, will be shifted from left to right half to alternate with strong Carl Mclnnis. This means that there will be a battle royal for the left half job, with Don McStocker, Bill Tudor, Eddie Flynn, Prentiss Goldstone, Leon Chevalier, and "Stew" Stubo fighting it out for newest cleats. Fullback is the key position of all Warner system teams, and Lewis hopes to build strongly at this essential berth. Ray Peterson, who was booting them 60 yards in that duel with Marvil, is favored for first team, but dissenters are Orv Condray, Bernie McCann, Rod Reid and Provo. Jack Bradley, sensational quarter of last year, may be moved to full to alternate with Peterson, since Zeff, a junior college transfer, Louie Davidson and Weldon Lucot will compete for the signal-calling job. With such promising backfleld talent, the Dons of 1934 may develop into the greatest attacking team ever to play on the Hill. Variations in formation and shifting will also strengthen the Don offense. Lewis said that passing and ball-handling will be the main drills for the backs during spring practice. "Poor ball-handling and faulty judgment lost many games for us last fall," Lewis said (TheFoghorn).

Peterson was drafted by the Green Bay Packers and played one season with them in 1937. He was inducted into the USF Hall of Fame in 1989.
