Susan Kazmer

Honors:
Women's Soccer (1985-1986), Rifle (1983-1984)

Susan Kazmer played soccer for the Dons and was on the Rifle Team. She graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor's in Nursing. She was also on the yearbook staff.

The current team membership is about twelve. Four riflers usually compete in the matches. The current starters are Tom Schabel, Francine Polidori. Susan Kazmer, and Felipe Choy. Schabel and Polidori are the leading scorers. Lee commented, "The girls have progressed rapidly. Susan has shown second year performance with just first year experience." The steady improvement in scores has given Coach Lee hope for the future. His main worry is keeping the shooters on the team. "The students must come back to create depth."

When USF announced the formation of an intercollegiate women's soccer team last semester, Head Coach Erik Visser told the Foghorn, "We have lo be patient and build up the program slowly. We are five years behind most schools." With one season under their belt, the Dons soccer team has proved their coach correct. USF is behind other schools. However, as anyone who followed the Dons inaugural season can attest, USF has made great strides in a short period of time and looks to be even better in years to come. Despite a 2-11 record, and a ten-game losing streak in mid-season, Visser acknowledges the game-by-game improvement USF made. "People don't realize how much we have accomplished because we competed against established squads." Sophomore forward Joan Harrington echoed Visser's observations, "For a first year team, we did really well considering the competition." Harrington has etched her name in the USF history books by scoring the first goal in USF's brief history of women's soccer. Besides the inexperience of the squad, the Dons overcame other obstacles throughout the season. Senior Tracey Miller, the chief offensive threat, was lost for the season with a knee injury. Against Cal State Hayward, senior defender Susan Kazmer went down for the season with a knee injury as well. The loss of Miller was devastating to the Don attack. As Kazmer pointed out, "We never had enough people to constitute a forward line. But, we had people who really tried hard (TheFoghorn)."
