Coaches Frank Zanazzi and Ivan Maroevitch were pleased with the showing made by the Dons. Most of the men knew nothing of the rules or playing of the game until three days before their initial encounter, so do not judge them too harshly. Not daunted by their first defeat, the rugby men tomorrow take on one of the best teams in the bay region— the Barbarians. The line-up is as follows: Don McStocker wing forward, Louis Casciani halfback, Ken Harper first five-eighths, Duke Duprius second five-eighths, Al Lucot center three, Lyle Maritzen left wing, Jack Homer right wing, Carl Maclnnis fullback, Avalos forward, Bill Smith forward, Bill Golden forward, Tom Mahoney forward, Dominic Garissino forward, H. Longtoc forward (TheFoghorn).

Harper, Ken (E) 170 lbs., 5' 10", a native of San Francisco, was an All-City and two year All-Coast high school ace. Coach Lewis takes delight in watching his ends work out, for he visualizes great strength at the flank positions in the coming seasons. And well he might, for the frosh team has graduated another man for the end post who is the equal to any he has met on the field. That man is the former line captain of the championship football team of Poly High School last year, ranked as one of the most powerful units ever developed in the San Francisco high schools, was the outstanding choice for the All-City honors at the end position for the past two years, and hails to the name of Ken Harper. He continued his fine work of high school days on the freshman team of last year, where he aided perceptibly in making it one of the most feared of all frosh teams on the coast.

Ken Harper was born in Georgia, but at the age of three years was brought to Los Angeles, where he remained before coming to this city. His athletic career at Poly High was brilliant, for besides his excellent football work, he was a sprinter of some renown for three years. In 1929 he ran on the championship relay team, while last year he placed fourth in the 100-yard dash in the high school track meet. His fine athletic work won for him seven gold footballs, including two of the coveted All-City footballs, and four medals, while he received his freshman sweater and numerals last fall. Harper's work has pleased the Don coaches so well that they are expecting much from him In the coming years. He is a dynamic player, breaks in fast to rush the passer or kicker, is hard to take out, and is a sure-shot on catching passes. Ken is a hard worker and likes the rough going. He and Blak should cause the USF coaches no worry about the end posts for the next three years, for both are good enough and have every desire to make the University proud of them (TheFoghorn).
