Andrew Kreichbaumer

Men's Soccer (1988-1991)

Andrew Kreichbaumer graduated with a Bachelor's in Accounting from USF in 1992. He played soccer with the Dons from 1988-1991. He now works in San Diego, CA in Finance.

Dons goalkeeper, Andrew Gloskowski, went virtually untested because of a strong effort by his defensemen. Fine defensive play was displayed by captain Alan Bailey, who quelled any attack Sonoma could mount. After the game, Coach Negoesco called Bailey's play "steady and intense." Freshman defender, Andrew Kreichbaumer, also played a solid defensive game, helping Gloskowski to his first shut-out of the season. "The team is in excellent physical shape," said Negoesco.

The Air Force scored first on a penalty kick early in the second half. Doyle tied the game for USF with a strong goal, assisted by Nick Dimitrievski. Emotions were running high in the tough physical game in which two yellow cards were issued, one earned by our freshman enforcer, Andrew Kreichbaumer. The tie put the Dons record at a fairly impressive 11-5-2, with just three games left on the schedule.

Last season, the men's soccer team let out a collective sigh of relief when the schedule came to an end. After compiling the first losing season in Head Coach Steve Negoesco's 29 years, the Dons pointed fingers left and right. Everybody got a slice of the blame. If it wasn't the coaching staff, it was the team captains. If it wasn't them, it was the new players. Nobody was excused. Well, almost nobody. Introducing Andrew Kreichbaumer, junior defender. Despite missing several games with various injuries last year, he remained the lone player who constantly performed without drawing the criticism of his teammates. For this reason, Negoesco has named him as captain of this year's team. The 1990 Dons open their season this Thursday night at Sports Editor 7:30 against Sonoma State, and Kreichbaumer expects fireworks. The match, which will be played at the newly reopened Negoesco Stadium, is the first held at night on campus in over two years, and the Dons are rarin' to go. "I think you're going to see a much more organized and vocal team," says the Las Vegas native. "Last season we just weren't together all of the lime, and it showed...nobody was singularly at fault, we just didn't get it done (TheFoghorn)."
