Vukic found himself with the ball at the edge of the area. In a difficult position, with his back to the goal and closed in by defenders, Vukic juggled the ball, turned, and lobbed a dangerously accurate cross to the onrushing Tor Sveen, who nodded it past the goalkeeper. Santa Clara never looked dangerous even though they recorded 16 shots at the USF net. Midway through the first half, a Santa Clara shot sent Mark Powell reeling towards the top left hand corner to turn the ball past the post. For the most part, the shots that were taken were feeble attempts directed right at the waiting hands of Powell.
