David Cohen was born on March 28, 1910 in San Francisco, attended the then Saint Ignatius College in the class of 1933, and played football for the Grey Fog. He served in the United States Navy during World War I. After the war he became a Pharmacist and opened a business in San Francisco. 

There is a David Cohen Scholarship Fund which was established in 1985 in his honor, which provides partial athletics scholarships to Men's Basketball students with good academic standing. He was inducted into the USF Hall of Fame in 1971.
