USF HOSTS SAN DIEGO: After going 2-1 on a three-game West Coast Conference road swing, San Francisco returns home to host San Diego Saturday, January 28. SCOUTING SAN DIEGO: The Toreros wrap up the fifth week of West Coast Conference play with a 8-12 overall record and improved to 3-5 in league play with a 65-56 victory against Pepperdine Thursday at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. San Diego has won three of its last five WCC contests, including road wins at Santa Clara (75-62) and at Portland (82-63). Freshman guard Johnny Dee leads the Toreros in scoring averaging 14.6 points per game and shoots a sizzling .432 (57-132) from 3-point range. Freshman guard Christopher Anderson adds 8.2 points with 4.5 assists, while sophomore forward Dennis Kramer chips in 7.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Bill Grier is in his fifth season at USD and owns a 63-87 record as the top Torero. The longtime Gonzaga aide led San Diego to an improbable run to the 2008 West Coast Conference Tournament title and an NCAA opening round upset of UConn. Last season, USD struggled, posting a 6-21 finish and a 2-12 WCC mark.
CALOIARO JOINS ELITE GROUP: Senior forward
Angelo Caloiaro joined an elite group when he surpassed 1,000 career points on New Year's Eve against Loyola Marymount in the 2011-12 West Coast Conference home opener. Caloiaro scored a game-high 26 points and became the 31st player in program history to score more than 1,000 points for the Green and Gold, finishing the night with 1,005.
