SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco Dons women's soccer team fell to the No. 20 Pepperdine Waves after a 2-1 battle at Negoesco Field on Sunday afternoon.

Pepperdine, playing their first West Coast Conference match, moved to 10-3-0 (1-0-0 WCC) with the victory while USF fell to 5-5-3 (0-2-0 WCC).

The Waves were first on the board as Pepperdine freshman Mandy Davis capitalized on a corner kick that found the back of the net in the 28th minute. The play unfolded after Michelle Pao put the ball in play and a scrum in the box ensued. Davis gained possession and found the back post for the score and Pao's seventh assist of the season.

The Waves struck again with five minutes remaining in the half as Pao notched her second assist on the afternoon. The junior defender served up a ball to Anisa Guajardo on a free kick from 30 yards out. Guarjardo's header made its way past a leaping Megan Connor for her sixth goal of the season.

Mackenzie Krieser got the Dons on the board in the 58th minute after a lofting shot from the corner found the back of the net. Kreiser's team-leading seventh goal on the season was assisted by Jaciara Mello's touch pass to the far sideline.

The Dons offense came on strong in the waning minutes of the contest with Abigail Phillips posting two shot attempts in the final three minutes of action. It wasn't enough, however, as the Waves defense held strong to close the match.

USF's best chance to score in the first was a bullet off the foot of Krieser in the 20th minute after she broke through the Pepperdine defense. Waves goalkeeper Roxanne Barker got a finger on the half-volley as it deflected just over the crossbar. Barker finished the game with seven saves on 12 USF shots.

Krieser led the Dons with three shots on goal. Don's fourth-string keeper Connor stopped seven Pepperdine attempts in the loss.

Again facing Top 20 competition, the Dons next travel to Provo, Utah to take on the No. 9 BYU Cougars on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 6:00 p.m.
