(San Francisco) – San Francisco came alive in the second half, outscoring Santa Clara 53-31, to win 85-69 in front of a raucous crowd at War Memorial Gym on Thursday night.  Sophomore guard Cody Doolin scored 17 second half points to ignite the Dons (16-10, 6-6 WCC), who trailed the Broncos (8-16, 0-11 WCC) for nearly 31 minutes.

With the win, USF collected win No. 500 at War Memorial Gym. “The House That Russell Built” opened for the 1958-59 season. The Dons improve to 11-2 on their home court this season.

Doolin connected on four 3-pointers in the second frame to score a game-high 21 points. The Austin, Texas native was just two points shy of his career high of 23, which came against Gonzaga on January 22, 2011.

The Dons shot a stellar .667 (18-27) from the field in the second half, including an identical .667 (6-9) mark from behind the arc.

A 17-0 run late in the second half propelled the Dons to their first lead of the night. San Francisco went ahead, 56-55, when Caloiaro made both free throws after an intentional foul on the Bronco's John McArthur. The Saratoga, CA native then stole an inbound pass and converted on a lay-up for a quick four-point swing. The Dons wouldn't look back from there as they eventually opened and maintained a double-digit lead.

All told, four Dons finished in double figures. Senior forward Angelo Caloiaro and center Perris Blackwell each added 18 apiece, while senior forward Rashad Green chipped in with 15 points. Caloiaro collected his 10th career double-double with a game-high 13 rebounds.

Santa Clara stormed out of the gates with an 11-0 run to start the game, but San Francisco fought back with an 8-2 run to even things out early on. Heading into the half, the Broncos held a six-point advantage, 38-32.

The Broncos were lights out from three-point land in the first frame, converting on .583 (7-12) long-distance shots. In stark contrast, the Dons shot just .160 (2-12) from range.

Raymond Cowels III led the Broncos with 21 points.

The Dons return to action on Saturday, February 11 as they travel south to take on San Diego. Tip-off against the Toreros is set for 6:00 PM in a game televised on Comcast Sports Net Bay Area and broadcast live on 95.7 The GAME.
