Volleyball Falls to Hawaii In Opening Match of Hawaiian Airlines Classic

Box Score HONOLULU, O'ahu - The San Francisco women's volleyball team fell to No. 6 Hawaii 3-0 (14-25, 25-27, 19-25) in the opening match of the 2012 Hawaiian Airlines Classic on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.

In front of a crowd of 6,343 strong, the Dons (3-2) dropped the first set by 11 points, but fought the Rainbow Wahine (4-0) to a narrow 25-27 second set loss. Hawaii then took the third and final set 25-19.

Freshman outside hitter Ester de Vries led the way for the Dons, narrowly missing out on a double-double with nine kills and nine digs. The Heerlen, Netherlands native led USF with 14.5 points on the night.

Senior Jocelyn Levig continued her hot start, leading San Francisco with 11 kills, to increase her season total to a team-high 60.

Junior outside hitter and 2011 All-WCC First Team selection Malina Terrell saw her first action of the 2012 season, notching five kills en route to a .333 attack pct.

The Dons return to action tomorrow, September 1 at 8:00 p.m. PST against the California Golden Bears.
