Box Score BERKELEY, Calif. - Coming off an impressive 4-1 victory over Sacramento State on Friday, the San Francisco women's soccer team came up short against No. 17 California, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Edwards Stadium.

The Dons (2-2-2) fought the Golden Bears (4-2-0) to a 1-0 deficit at halftime, due in large part to the stellar play of freshman goalkeeper Madalyn Schiffel.

Cal forward Ifeoma Onumonu scored the first goal of the game at the 22 minute mark, her third of the season, to give Cal a 1-0 first half lead. Senior midfielder Betsy Hassett brought the ball up through the middle of the field, dropping a pass off in the box to Onumonu, who then deflected the pass past a diving Schiffel.

Schiffel stood out for San Francisco in the first half with seven saves, while Abigail Phillips had the lone shot for USF. Entering Sunday, Schiffel had 34 saves in five matches, for a 0.92 goals against average.

The Golden Bears took control in the second half, scoring two goals to take a 3-0 lead.

Grace Leer scored in the 68th minute and moments later junior forward Mekenna DeBack headed one into the back of the net to give the Golden Bears a three-goal lead.

San Francisco returns to play on September 7 in a home game against Northern Arizona at 7:00 p.m. at Negoesco Stadium.
