USF Returns Home to Face BYU on Saturday
USF (7-7, 0-1 WCC) will look to rebound from Wednesday night's 74-69 loss at Santa Clara when the Dons play host to the BYU Cougars Saturday night in Memorial Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. and the game will be televised on BYU TV with Dave McCann, Blaine Fowler and Robbie Bullough on the call.
USF has lost six of its last eight games following a five-game winning while the Cougars improved to 11-4 after defeating Loyola Marymount 92-51 in their WCC opener Thursday night in Provo.
USF-BYU Series
In a series that dates back to the 1946-47 season, BYU leads the all-time series with USF, 7-5. USF holds a 4-1 advantage in games played in San Francisco and are 0-4 in Provo. The teams have also met three times on neutral courts, with BYU holding a 2-1 advantage.
The two teams have met once in NCAA Tournament play, with the Dons scoring a 86-63 victory in a second round game played in Tucson, Ariz.
BYU swept last year's season series, winning 81-56 in Provo and 85-84 in Memorial Gymnasium. The Dons managed to shoot just 32.8 percent from the floor in a 25-point loss at the Marriott Center on Jan. 7. The Cougars completed the sweep with a 85-84 victory in Memorial Gym on Jan. 16 behind Matt Carlino's game-high 30 points.
Angelo Caloiaro topped USF scorers with 23 points.

Last season, the Dons finished with an overall record of 20-14, marking the program's first 20-win season since 1981-82 (25-6).
Walters Notches 100th Career Coaching Victory
USF's 93-76 victory over Dominican last Saturday gave USF head coach
Rex Walters his 100th career coaching victory. Walters' career record, which includes two seasons as head coach at Florida Atlantic, stands at 100-105 while his five-year USF coaching record is 69-72.
The Dons have improved their win total each year under Walters' guidance.
Leaders in Their Field
Three USF players --
Cole Dickerson, De'End Parker and
Cody Doolin -- rank in the top-25 nationally in various statistical categories.
Dickerson ranks fourth the nation in rebounding, averaging 11.9 boards a game, just behind of Siena's O.D. Anosike (12.7), Delaware's Jamelle Harris (12.5) and Colorado's Andre Roberson (12.1).
Doolin is averaging 6.3 assists per game to rank 16th among the national leaders.
Parker ranks 23rd nationally in three-point field goal percentage, as the junior two-guard is shooting 51.3 percent (20-for-39) from beyond the arc after 14 games.
From the Floor
USF is shooting 47.8 percent (132-for-276) from the field over the last five games, including a season-best 55.9 percent (33-for-59) vs. Dominican. The Dons are 5-1 this season when shooting 50 percent or better from the floor, with its only loss in those six games coming against Ole Miss, when USF shot 50.9 percent in an 85-78 defeat.
The Dons shot 45.3 percent (43-for-95) from three-point range over their first six games -- tops in the nation -- but have managed to shoot just 35.0 percent (54-for-154) from long distance in the last eight games.
USF ranks fourth in the WCC in field goal percentage (45.5) and second in three-point field goal percentage (39.0).
Board Work
USF is +13 in the rebound column over its last three games against East Tennessee State (38-21), Dominican (42-37) and Santa Clara (33-42) and rank seventh in the WCC in rebound margin at +2.1 (35.2-33.1).
The Dons opened the season by outrebounding its first five opponents by a margin of 11.4 per game but lost the battle of the boards in its next six games vs. St. John's (34-37), Pacific (25-36), Nevada (30-45), Holy Cross (34-41), San Diego State (25-34), Ole Miss (27-33).
The Dons are 6-1 in games in which they outrebound the opponent, with the only loss coming against Stanford, when the Dons held a 45-29 advantage on the boards.
Cole Dickerson ranks fourth in the nation in rebounding with a 11.9 per game average and accounts for 33.6 percent (167 of 493) of the team's rebounding total.
From the Line
USF is shooting 73.3 (55-for-75) percent from then line over the last four games after converting on just 61.1 (132-for-216) of its charity tries over the first 10 games of the year. However, the Dons still rank ninth in the WCC in free throw percentage at 64.3.
Cody Doolin ranks fourth in the WCC in free throw percentage at 85.0 percent (51-for-60) while the rest of the team is shooting 58.8 percent (136-for-231) from the line.
Defensive Doings
The Dons are allowing 67.1 points a game, which ranks seventh among WCC teams. Opponents are shooting 43.0 percent from the floor, which is the second-highest percentage allowed in the conference. The Dons also rank last in the conference in blocks (1.6) and steals (5.0) per game.
In It to Win It

Against Pacific, the Dons trailed 61-59 with 1:23 left before the Tigers scored the last six points of the game to win 67-59. USF trailed Nevada by just six points at 51-45 with 4:14 remaining before falling 59-51. The Dons trailed Ole Miss 73-70 with 3:01 on the clock before dropping an 85-78 decision. USF trailed Santa Clara by two points at 69-67 with :31 left before falling 74-69.
Dickerson's Doubles
Cole Dickerson is averaging a double-double 14 games into the 2012-13 campaign, as the junior forward from Federal Way, Wash. is scoring 15.5 points and grabbing 11.9 rebounds per game.
Dickerson has posted eight double-doubles in 14 games this season against Stanford (11-19), Cal State-East Bay (14-15), Columbia (10-14), Montana (19-20), Holy Cross (17-17), San Diego State (15-12), Dominican (30-10) and Santa Clara (17-12) and narrowly missed double-doubles in games against Pacific (14-9), Nevada (11-9) and East Tennessee State (19-9).
The last USF player to average a double-double for an entire season was Darrell Tucker, when he scored 18.9 points and grabbed 10.1 rebounds a game in 2001-02.
Dickerson also posted double-doubles in both exhibition games against San Francisco State (21-15) and UNC-Pemboke (24-10).
Dickerson averaged 7.1 ppg and 4.0 rpg in 34 games last season, including one start.
Dickerson Takes Over Team Scoring Lead
Cole Dickerson has averaged 18.6 points over his last six games (112) total, including a career-best 30-point effort vs. Dominican, and now leads the team in scoring with a 15.5 per game average - eighth best in the WCC.
Junior guard De'End Parker, who topped the team's scoring column for the previous 11 games, is close behind with a 14.1 per game average.
Dickerson and Parker, along with
Cody Doolin and Tim Derksen, account for 73 percent of the team's scoring total.

Cody Doolin ranks second the WCC and 16th nationally in assists per game (6.3). Doolin's career assist total now stands at 337, which ranks sixth on USF's all-time list. He needs 12 more dimes to tie Jason Grimes (2000-05) for fourth all-time and 13 to tie LyRyan Russell (1997-02) for third place.
