SAN FRANCISCO—The Dons look to turn things around this week as they continue West Coast Conference play host to against defending champion BYU and San Diego this week.

The Dons have had a rough go of it on the offensive side of the ball. San Francisco has been shutout in four consecutive matches (0-3-1) with the last goal coming in the early moments of the second half against Oregon.

"We lick our wounds, get back and prepare for BYU, a very good team," Dons head coach Jim Millinder said. "We're quite capable beating anybody in the country. We've just got to continue fighting hard and to lose that right mentality."

"The kids just got to keep doing the right things. At some point it'll change. That little round thing will roll over the line."

SCHIFFEL REMAINS STRONG
Sophomore Madalyn Schiffel has continued to be the rock for the Dons. She is 78th in the nation in goals allowed average (.876) and 82nd in save percentage (.817). She also has five shutouts on the season, bring her career total to eight. If Schiffel were to continue this level of play, she would hold the second best single season GAA in school history (Amy Voiland, 0.69 in 1996).

PLAYING TOP COMPETITION
BYU will mark the second ranked opponent the Dons will have played this season but will not be the last. As of Oct. 1, three WCC teams are ranked in the NSCAA Top 25 (Santa Clara, BYU, Portland) and a fourth (Pepperdine) is getting votes in the poll.

TOUGH PRESEASON SCHEDULE
The Dons have had a challenging preseason schedule but have come out of it for the better. They had matches against big conference opponents and pulled out some impressive results. San Francisco pulled out a win on the road at Kansas 1-0 and forced a 1-1 tie at Oregon. The win over Kansas was the first over a Big 12 school since 2001.

TOURNAMENT ACCOLADES
Jaciara Mello, Halle Bissin, and Ali Schaffer were all named to the Kansas Invitational All-Tournament Team on Sept. 15. The Dons went 1-1-0 in the event.

ABOUT BYU (6-3-1, 0-0-0)
The defending WCC champions have not disappointed thus far in the preseason. They are 2-1 against ranked opponents with the most recent coming on Friday in a 2-1 victory over No. 20 Baylor. The Cougars have scored 16 goals this season and they have come from nine different players. Their versatility makes BYU incredibly dangerous.

ABOUT SAN DIEGO (7-4-0, 0-0-0)
San Diego can score but they also give up a ton of goals. The Toreros have scored 20 goals this season but have also yielded 18. San Diego was also in Lawrence for the Kansas Invitational in mid-September and split its contests much like the Dons. San Diego took a 2-0 win over Kansas and lost to Nebraska 2-1. Two Toreros to watch out for are Michaela Dooley (6 goals) and Emily Dillon (5 goals).
