USF Travels to Provo to Meet BYU on Saturday
USF (10-13, 3-7 WCC) will meet the BYU Cougars (18-6, 8-2 WCC) for the second time this season when the two teams square-off Saturday night at the Marriott Center in Provo, Utah.
BYU won the first meeting of the year, claiming a 80-76 decision on Jan. 5 on The Hilltop (see below), handing the Dons their second straight loss in an eventual five-game losing streak to open conference play.
USF split a pair of games last week, falling at home to Saint Mary's, 67-63 before prevailing at Pepperdine, 86-78. BYU posted a pair of wins over Pepperdine (63-61) and Santa Clara (96-79). The Cougars will play at San Diego on Thursday before facing USF on Saturday.
USF-BYU Series
In a series that dates back to the 1946-47 season, BYU leads the all-time series with USF, 8-5. USF holds a 4-2 advantage in games played in San Francisco but are 0-4 vs. the Cougars in Provo. The teams have also met three times on neutral courts, with BYU holding a 2-1 advantage.
The teams have met once in NCAA Tournament play, with the Dons scoring a 86-63 victory in a second round game played in Tucson, Ariz. in 1979.
BYU claimed the first meeting of the year with the Dons, scoring a hard-fought 80-76 decision on The Hilltop on Jan. 4, as the Dons squandered a seven-point lead with 8:31 remaining.
BYU swept last year's season series, winning 81-56 in Provo and 85-84 in Memorial Gymnasium. The Dons managed to shoot just 32.8 percent from the floor in a 25-point loss at the Marriott Center on Jan. 7. The Cougars completed the sweep with a 85-84 victory in Memorial Gym on Jan. 16 behind Matt Carlino's game-high 30 points.

USF leads the WCC and ranks 15th nationally in three-point field goal percentage at 39.6 (175-for-442). The Dons are also shooting 40.5 percent (87-for-215) from long distance in conference play.
The Dons have made nine or more three-pointers in nine games this season, including Saturday at Pepperdine, when USF nailed a season-best 14 (of 24) shots from beyond the arc.
Avry Holmes, who made all four of his three-point attempts at Pepperdine, leads the WCC and ranks 10th nationally in three-point field goal percentage at 50.8 percent (26-for-37) while De'End Parker (2nd; 48.0%) and
Chris Adams (7th; 41.1) also rank in the WCC's top-10.
All but one of Adams' field goals this season has been a three-pointer.

Of USF's 13 losses this season, nine have been by 10 points or less, including four of the last five which have been decided by six points or less. In four of USF's seven conference losses, the Dons trailed by two points with 31 seconds remaining in the game. However, USF has faced double-figure deficeits in seven of its 10 conference games.

USF is 6-5 at home this season and is 40-18 (.689) record in its last 58 home games dating back to the 2009-10 season. The Dons are 47-23 (.671) in Memorial Gymnasium in five seasons under head coach

USF has employed four starting lineups this season, with the latest quintent of

Christiansen has started the last five games in the middle while Adams has made nine straight starts beginning with the BYU game.
Doolin, Dickerson and Derksen have started all 23 games this season, while Tao Xu (16), De'End Parker (14) and Frank Rogers (2) have also earned starting assignments.
Five underclassmen, including three freshmen, have earned starts at some point during the season.

Holmes ranks 10th nationally in three-point field goal percentage (50.8; 32-for-63), Dickerson ranks 16th in rebound average (9.9) while Doolin ranks 30th in assists (30th).
From the Field
After shooting just 32.7 percent (34-for-104) from the field against Santa Clara (16-for-50) and Loyola Marymount (18-for-54), USF has shot 47.4 percent (99-for-209) over the last four games against Portland, Gonzaga, Saint Mary's and Pepperdine.
USF is 7-3 this season when shooting 50 percent or better from the floor, with its only losses in those 10 games coming against Ole Miss (50.9) BYU (50.0) and the first game against Saint Mary's (51.0).
USF currently ranks fourth in the WCC in field goal percentage at 45.1 percent.
Freshman Tim Derksen ranks eighth in the WCC in field goal percentage at 51.8 percent (72-for-139) while
Cole Dickerson ranks 13th at 45.0 (122-for-271).

USF has been outrebounded in all 10 conference games and is averaging just 28.3 boards per game in conference play.
The Dons have been outboarded in 16 of the last 18 contests dating back to the St. John's game on Dec. 4 and rank eighth in the WCC in rebound average at 32.3 per game and ninth in rebound margin (-2.3). USF also ranks ninth in the WCC in offensive rebounds at 8.1 per game.
The Dons opened the season by outrebounding its first five opponents by a margin of 11.4 per game but lost the battle of the boards in its next six games vs. St. John's (34-37), Pacific (25-36), Nevada (30-45), Holy Cross (34-41), San Diego State (25-34), Ole Miss (27-33).
Charity Stripe Turnaround
USF is shooting 72.8 (158-for-217) percent from the line over the last 12 games after converting on just 61.1 percent (132-for-216) of its charity tries over the first 10 contests. However, the Dons still rank ninth in the WCC in free throw percentage at 66.4, but are shooting 70.4 from the line in conference play, which is the fourth-best mark in WCC games.
Defensive Doings
The Dons are allowing 69.1 points a game, which ranks eighth among WCC teams. Opponents are shooting 44.2 percent from the floor, which is the highest percentage allowed in the conference. The Dons also rank ninth in the conference in blocks (2.0) and steals (5.3) per game.
Dickerson's Doubles
Cole Dickerson has posted nine double-doubles in 23 games this season against Stanford (11-19), Cal State-East Bay (14-15), Columbia (10-14), Montana (19-20), Holy Cross (17-17), San Diego State (15-12), Dominican (30-10), Santa Clara (17-12) and Pepperdine (27-11) and was a rebound or point away from double-doubles in five other games against Pacific (14-9), Nevada (11-9), East Tennessee State (19-9), BYU (22-9) and Saint Mary's (9-11).
The last USF player to average a double-double for an entire season was Darrell Tucker, when he scored 18.9 points and grabbed 10.1 rebounds a game in 2001-02.

Cole Dickerson's 27-point performance Saturday at Pepperdine fell three-points shy of his career-high of 30, set earlier this season vs. Dominican. It marked his third game this season scoring 20 or more points, including his 20-point effort on Dec. 19 at American.
Dickerson has shared/led USF in scoring 11 times this season and has topped the Dons in rebounding 17 games.
In addition to leading the WCC in rebound average (9.9), Dickerson ranks 10th in scoring (14.5) and 13th in field goal percentage (45.0).
Holmes Heating Up
Freshman Avry Holmes, who made all four of his three-point attempts at Pepperdine, leads the WCC and ranks 10th nationally in three-point field goal percentage at 50.8 percent (32-for-63).
In his 10 conference games, Holmes is shooting at a 58.6 percent clip (17-for-29) from long distance. He is 10-for-15 (66.7) from three-point range over the last five games and has made at least one three-pointer in all of his games this season with the exception of one (at American).
Holmes ranks as the Dons fifh-leading scorer averaging 7.0 points per game. He is the team's third-leading scorer in WCC games with a 7.9 per game mark.

USF boasts an 8-1 record in overtime games under head coach
Rex Walters. The Dons only overtime loss came at Colorado State, 91-75 in the 2009-10 season.
Doolin Named to Captial One Academic All-District VIII Team
Cody Doolin was one of five players selected to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII basketball team, as voted upon by the College Sports Information Directors of America in recognition of the nation's top student-athletes for their performances athletically and in the classroom.
Doolin, a native of Austin, Texas, carries a 3.68 cumulative grade point average as a finance major. He is currently the Dons second-leading scorer with a 12.2 points per game average and is averaging 5.5 assists a game, third-best in the West Coast Conference.
District VIII comprises the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington, along with Canada.
Doolin along with the other first team All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in February
