PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The University of San Francisco men's tennis team notched its sixth win of the spring Sunday afternoon, blanking the Iowa Hawkeyes, 7-0, at the Pebble Beach Club.
USF (6-3, 0-0 WCC) picked up the doubles point over Iowa (6-5, 0-2 Big Ten) behind a shuffled lineup that saw Bernardo Saraiva / Nils Skajaa taking over the No.1 position after playing the No. 2 position for the first seven matches of the year.
Senior Thai Tu, formerly holding down the No. 1 doubles position with fellow senior William Schumacher, teamed with junior Germain Bahri to earn an 8-6 victory out of the No. 3 slot in the lineup.
Sophomore Bernardo Saraiva upped his spring record to a perfect 8-0 in singles play after breezing past Iowa's Jonas Dierckx by scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
“The team played a very good match today,” said USF coach Peter Bartlett. “This last week the team put in some good practices and worked on some of the things we needed to shore up from our Boise State match.”
The Dons travel to Provo, Utah to open West Coast Conference play against the No. 39 BYU Cougars (12-4, 2-0 WCC) on Friday, March 22 at noon.
