FRESNO, Calif. -- USF's men's golf team tied for fourth at the Fresno State Invitational after the Dons carded a final round 305 (+21) on Tuesday.
The Dons finished with a 54-hole score of 891 (+39) and 18 strokes behind first place UC Santa Barbara (873), which earned a three-stroke victory over Nevada (876). BYU finished third at 887.
UC Santa Barbara's Jordan Esptein carded a final round 68 (-3) to claim medalist honors. Epstein finished 1-over (214) for the tournament, one stroke clear of 54-hole leader Camden Price of Cal Poly, who finished with a 75.
Cory McElyea, who entered the final round tied for second and just one shot out of the lead, shot a 77 on Tuesday and finished tied for third at 218 (+5).
USF's low round of the day belonged to junior Jobin Carlos, who carded a 1-under 70 over is final 18 holes. Birdies on 17 and 18 move Carlos into a tie for 6th place at 219 (+6). He was just one of five golfers to break par on another blustery day at the San Joaquin Country Club.
Sebastian Crookall-Nixon tied for 39th at 228 (+15) afer shooting a final round 78.
Freshman Leo Kitahara shot a final round 80 and tied for 58th at 235 (+22).
Junior Emil Liljeroth tied for 61st at 236 (+23) following a final round 81, whie Alex Ricciardelli tied for 69th at 239 (+26) after turning in an 85 over his final 18 holes.
USF will return to action on March 28, as the Dons join one of the nation's strongest fields at the U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford Golf Course. It will be the team's final tournament before the West Coast Conference championships, which run from April 14-16 in Bremerton, Wash.
