SAN FRANCISCO—After a split in the opening weekend, the Dons return to Negoesco Stadium to open the home schedule as they host the USF Tournament this weekend and will take on Portland State and LIU Brooklyn.

The two-day, four-team tournament will play on Friday and Sunday and begin when No. 21 California takes on LIU Brooklyn at 4:30 p.m., followed by the Dons facing Portland State. California will start Sunday's matches against Portland State at 12 p.m. and USF will wrap up the weekend with LIU Brooklyn.

San Francisco swept through the USF Tournament last season with 1-0 wins over UC Davis and Harvard with goals from Rochelle Weerackoon and Jaciara Mello, giving the Dons a 4-1-0 record.

LAST TIME OUT
The Dons jumped on Nevada early and rolled to the 3-0 win in Reno on Sunday. San Francisco got two goals a minute apart from each other in the 21st and 22nd minutes from Jaciara Mello and Jessica Nakae, which gave them a 2-0 lead. Freshman Maddy Glaser chipped in with her first collegiate goal in the 89th minute of the contest. The shutout was Madalyn Schiffel's first of the season.

WHITTLE ON ATTACK
Sophomore Amanda Whittle came out strong in the first weekend of play as she recorded a goal to tie the team's match against California and then chipped in with the assist on the game-winning goal against Nevada last Sunday. She already has three points on the season after picking up six in her freshman campaign.

PROTECTING NEGOESCO
The Dons return home for the first time this season and have played well in home openers in recent years. Since 2008, San Francisco is 4-1-1 with three shutouts in home openers with wins over Fresno State and Nevada. The Dons played its first home match against Nevada last season and won 2-0.

DONS ON THEW.TV
All eight Dons home matches this season will be aired on TheW.tv, the West Coast Conference's online broadcasting network. Charles Wollin will be behind the mic again this season.

INTERNATIONAL PLAY
Junior defender Leticia Torres will be leaving the team following its match at Harvard on Sept. 5 to join the Chilean National Team as they compete in Brazil in the World Cup qualifying matches. Torres was with the Chilean Team during the spring and helped guide it to an appearance in the South American Cup final. She has started both contests thus far this season.

NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED GOALIE
Madalyn Schiffel, who was named to the All-WCC honorable mention team last season, participated in the Team USA U-20 camp in April with some of the best college players in the country. She recorded six shutouts last season and had 10 other matches where she only allowed one goal.

RETURNING ALL-LEAGUE PLAYERS
The Dons have five returning players who have earned All-WCC honors and among those are three who earned honors last season. Madalyn Schiffel and Halle Bissin earned honorable mention honors and Jessica Nakae was selected to the All-Freshman Team. Jaciara Mello (2011 All-Freshman Team) and Mackenzie Krieser (2012 All-WCC Second Team) also return for the Dons.

ABOUT PORTLAND STATE
The Vikings opened their season with a 1-0-1 record, collecting a 1-0 win over Utah Valley last Friday and a 1-1 draw with Boise State on Sunday. Portland State was on the doorstep of the NCAA Tournament and finished the 2013 season with a 8-0-1 record in the Big Sky but lost in penalty kicks in the Big Sky championship match to Weber State. San Francisco and Portland State met last season and played to a 0-0 draw in Portland on Sept. 22.

ABOUT LIU BROOKLYN
LIU Brooklyn has been picked to finish second in the Northeast Conference but has gotten off to a sluggish start. They dropped both contests in their opening weekend by a combined score of 8-0, including a 5-0 blowout at the hands of Holy Cross. The Blackbirds finished last season 8-11-1. The Dons and LIU Brooklyn have only met once coming into the weekend and it was back in 2009.
