SAN FRANCISCO—The Dons got a boost in the first half from Mackenzie Krieser, who scored her first goal of the season, but were unable to hold onto the lead as San Jose State scored late which led to the 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon.

"That's a game we've got to close out, that's a game we should win," San Francisco head coach Jim Millinder said. "We missed too many chances and when you miss chances, you either get beat or you get this result. It's one game but to get to the NCAA Tournament, you've got to win those games."

The Dons (4-2-2) will return to action next Friday when they hit the road to begin a weekend in the Rocky Mountains by taking on Denver and Colorado.

Alex Alugas was on the attack early and had three solid looks at the goal.

In the eighth minute, she beat her defender one-on-one but her shot from about 10 yards out on the right side went wide. Two minutes later, Alugas took a cross from Sonja Giraud and fired but it was saved by San Jose State's Zoe Makrigiannis. The third came less than a minute later when she dribbled from the right wing and fired with the left foot but it curled just wide.

"It's a credit for her," Millinder said. "That shows you when you put a lot of hard work into your game, it shows you what the result it like. She's doing a great job."

The Dons kept up the pressure and in the 41st minute finally broke through when Krieser caught a deflected pass in the box and kicked it while falling down but was able to find the net for the goal, giving the Dons a 1-0 first half lead. It was Krieser's first of the season.

San Francisco was the aggressor in the first half with seven shots to San Jose State's one.

Both teams were quiet for much of the second half until San Jose State's Gabriella Stange found a seam in the center of the box and drilled her kick off the extended hand of Madalyn Schiffel to tie it at one.

The goal snapped a two-game scoreless streak for the Dons' defense.

"I thought we let them dictate the final 15-20 minutes to get the equalizer," Millinder said. "I don't think we were consistent enough today."

In the second overtime, Alugas dribbled to the goal line and crossed it to the center of the box where Giraud slid to get her shot off but a diving save by Makrigiannis kept it a 1-1 tie.

"I think that was her best game today as a Don," Millinder said. "She didn't get rewarded for it but she was all over. She was pulling the trigger from everywhere. She's just gradually going to get better and better."
