
Skajaa Turns in Big Performance

After Vasco Valverde, Thomas Takemoto and Ryan Marker all suffered straight-set losses it was up to senior Nils Skajaa to earn USF a spot in the round of 32. Skajaa, playing against Cal Poly's Corey Pang, took the first set in a tiebreaker but suffered a 6-3 loss in the second.
With his teammates cheering him on and the crowd behind him, Skajaa rose to the occasion in the third and final set. Skajaa turned in a very clutch performance, beating Pang 6-1 to earn a matchup on Saturday at 11:30 AM against Kalman Boyd of USC.
In doubles play, Skajaa was victorious as well, teaming up with Takemoto to beat California's Filip Bergevi and Oskar Wikberg 8-5 to make the quarterfinals. The pair will square off against Davis Crocker and Carter Lin of Michigan at 9:00 AM on Saturday.
Marker and Valverde played against Kyle Butters and Toby Mitchell of Boise State, but lost 8-5 and were eliminated from doubles play.
