Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Dons Suffer 3-1 Defeat at UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. - Bryce Kaminski got himself into the scoring column for the first time this season and Manny Padilla picked up his first assist, but the USF men's soccer team (2-8-0) suffered a 3-1 loss at UC Davis on Sunday afternoon.

UC Davis (4-5-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute when Lucas Mohageg scored his fifth goal of the season after he redirected a header off a corner kick that had enough spin on it to slip out of USF keeper Andre Glasnovic's hands for the score.

The Dons didn't wait long to get on the board, as Kaminski netted the equalizer in the 30th minute when he took a long pass from Padilla and found himself with a one-on-one against Davis keeper Kris Schultz after two Aggie defenders collided and left Kaminski with the open look, which he converted to tie the match at 1-1.

The first half ended with the 1-1 tie and an even 8-8 split in shots taken in the period, the result of a very evenly-matched contest in the early going.

Coming out in the second half, however, UC Davis was able to exert a lot of pressure on the USF defense, outshooting the Dons 17-1 in the second frame.

The UC Davis attack resulted in Evan Barrett scoring the game winner for the Aggies in the 51st minute when he received a pass from the left wing and had a look at an open net with Glasnovic being pulled out of position, allowing Davis to pull ahead 2-1.

The Dons battled throughout the second half, trying to put together an attack of their own, but that task was made more challenging after Ludwing Vargas was issued a red card in the 71st minute, forcing USF to play a man down for the remaining 19 minutes.

During that time, UC Davis netted an insurance goal from Matt Wiesenfarth in the final minute of the match to give the Aggies their ultimate 3-1 advantage.

Sean Bowman had four shots on the day to lead the Dons, while Davi Ramos added a pair of shots, one of which was on frame, and Christian De Luna contributed two shots of his own.

Glasnovic picked up seven saves in goal for USF, his second-highest total of the season so far.

The Dons now turn their attention to another big road contest when they travel to face No. 7 New Mexico on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Dons' final nonconference match before opening WCC play at Santa Clara on Oct. 11.
