Dons Compete at St. Mary's Fall Invite

MORAGA, Calif. – Seven women advanced to the singles round of 16, with Amber Del Rosario earning a spot in her bracket quarterfinals, and a duo competed in the doubles quarterfinals to highlight the weekend's action at the Saint Mary's Fall Invite.
Playing in the B Bracket, Del Rosario dispatched Sacramento State's Louisa Brunetti, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4, to advance to take on the No. 1 seed in the draw. On Saturday, Del Rosario took advantage of the challenge and upended Nikita Pradeep, 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 to slide into the quarterfinal round.
The foursome of Joselyn Treyes Albarracin, Emily Maxfield, Anna Sokiran and Genevieve McCloskey each advanced past their first round matches on Friday in the A Bracket. No. 6 seeded Sokiran dispatched Parminder Kauer of Saint Mary's 6-1, 6-4 in her opening match, and Treyes Albarracin and McCloskey also recorded straight-set wins. A comeback was in the cards for Emily Maxfield in her opening round. After dropping her first set to Pacific's Maayan Sela, she battled back with a 6-4, 7-6(6) victory to advance to the A Bracket round of 16.
Playing in the B Bracket, Alisha Sharma and Shanna Dos Santos joined Del Rosario on the second day of the draw to bring the total first-round advancers to seven.
The highlighted doubles action for the Dons were the Doubles A Bracket fourth seed of Maxfield and McCloskey. The duo took down Cal's Stephanie Lin and Audrey Mayer to advance to the quarterfinals where they eventually fell to a pair from Saint Mary's in the tiebreaker.
After a brief October hiatus, the Dons are back in action at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships, hosted by Stanford on Oct. 21-23.
