SAN FRANCISCO, Calif — The USF Dons volleyball team came roaring out of the gate against the visiting LMU Lions in War Memorial at the Sobrato Center Saturday afternoon and had the Lions on their heels. LMU was leading in the set 17-12 when the Dons went on a 6-1 run sparked by a Marjolijn Oskam kill and capped by a Nora Buvarp Lavik slam to knot things up at 18.Â
From there, LMU would continue to take leads and the Dons (4-17, 0-8 WCC) would continue to fight back. The Lions took a 20-18 lead until a monster block from Tyna Adamcikova brought the Dons back within one. Then LMU went back up by two before Adamcikova brought USF back again with a big-time slam. Finally at 22-20, it was Emily Reed's turn to get the kill bringing USF within one, but the Lions would pull away to a 25-21 set win.
LMU (14-6, 5-3 WCC) would take the momentum from the first set and carry it through the rest of the match as they swept USF.Â
Oskam was a force in the middle all day with four kills and a team-leading five blocks. Adamcikova registered a team-high eight kills to go with four digs and two blocks. Kate Ashman chipped in five kills, Reed had four of her own and Montana Green led the team with 11 assists.Â
