Gauchos Beat Dons, 6-1

Santa Barbara, Calif. –– With a shorthanded roster on Sunday, the USF Dons were forced to forfeit both the No. 6 singles match and No. 3 doubles match and lost 6-1 to UCSB at the Rec Center Courts.
Entering the No. 1 doubles match, the Gauchos already held a 1-0 lead over the Dons due to the default loss at No. 3. Andrea Ka and Thyra Taune played very well and beat Palina Dubavets and Jaimee Gilbertson 6-1. The Green and Gold desperately needed a win at No. 2 to secure the doubles point, but Melissa Baker and Stephanie Yamada took care of business and beat USF's Hanna Börjeson and Shanna Dos Santos 6-0.
Up 2-0 due to the forfeit at No. 6 singles, UCSB extended its lead at No. 5 singles with Natalie De Silveira defeating Jiayu Mu, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 4, Jaimee Gilbertson took down Borjeson 6-3, 6-2. The Gauchos made it four straight singles wins with Amanda Atanasson beating Dos Santos 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3.
Ka, who entered the match 4-1 in singles play, lost the first set to Dubavets 6-4, but battled back to win 6-4 in the second set and earned the third set tiebreaker with a 10-7 win to secure her fifth victory of the year. In the final match of the day, Lou Adler picked up the win over Taune with a 3-6, 7-5, 13-11 victory.
The Dons will return to the Olympic Club on Feb. 27 to face South Alabama at 1 p.m.
