SAN FRANCISCO -- The Dons arrived at the Cal Club with the goal to send out their seniors Andrea Ka, Thyra Taune and Sofia Holmberg in style, but they missed the mark as Pepperdine claimed USF's final home match 4-0.
The Dons started off strong at third doubles with a victory from the tandem Sofia Holmberg and Genevieve McCloskey against Michaela Capannolo and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai 6-2.
However, the Waves (19-2, 9-0 WCC) claimed the final two doubles matches to take the 1-0 lead from the pairs of Matea Cutura and Luisa Stefani along with Laura Gulbe and Dzina Milovanovic who picked up wins on courts 1 and 2.
Gulbe got Pepperdine off to a swift start in singles play with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Taune at court 2. Cutura who faced off Holmberg, gave the Waves a 3-0 lead at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-1. Runglerdkriangkrai clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 mark against Shanna Dos Santos.
This was the final home match for seniors Ka,Taune and Holmberg for San Francisco. Ka will finish her career decorated with All-WCC First team for three consecutive years, an ITA ranking of 49th her junior year, and she finishes off the regular season with a dual-match winning record of 11-2 and 4-1 in WCC action.
Taune who is a junior, graduating early, will leave her mark with accolades such as All-WCC singles player for two straight years and a WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention.
Holmberg takes with her a two time WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention and has stepped on the court eight times for USF this season.
The Dons wrap up their regular season (6-12, 4-5 WCC) as they set off to the WCC Championships this Thursday in Claremont, Calif.
