MBB | Slow Start Dooms Dons Versus Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. – Sophomore Jordan Ratinho made the first bucket of the game, from there host Arizona State went on a 23-3 run and led by as much as 21 in the first half.  The Dons managed to cut the deficit to 12 but could not inch closer against the 20th ranked team in the country, falling 75-57.
 
USF (3-3) opened the game 2-for-20 from the field, and finished the night shooting a season-low 28.6 percent from the field, going 18-for-63, and 11-for-40 mark from 3-point range.  Defensively, the Dons did something no one has done yet, held Arizona State (7-0) to less than 80 points.  ASU entered the game fourth in the nation averaging 95.7 points per game, USF held the Sun Devils to 40 points in the first half and a season-low 35 points in the second half. 
 
Ratinho led all scorers with 20 points, tying a career high set last year against Gonzaga.  He went 6-for-16 from the floor, and 3-for-11 from 3-point range.  He was one of three Dons to finish in double figures.  Frankie Ferrari tied a season-high scoring 11 points off the bench, followed by Remu Raitanen who scored 10 points. 
 
ASU had five players finish in double figures and was led by Romello White's team-high 16 points, he also grabbed 13 rebounds or a double-double.  The Sun Devils shot 46.0 percent from the field, going 23-for-50, a bulk of ASU's offense came in the paint where they scored 34 points.
 
GAME NOTES
  • For the first time this season, USF was outrebounded by their opponents. Arizona State grabbed 46 rebounds to the Dons 34.
  • Three players fouled out for the Dons on Saturday evening, USF was called for 30 personal fouls.ASU went 25-for-36 from the free throw line on the evening.
  • The Dons bench finished the night with 28 points, making it six-straight games in which the Dons' reserves have scored at least 26 points.
  • Chase Foster finished the night with 10 rebounds, he becomes the first player to reach double figures in rebounds since Remu Raitanen grabbed 12 against Long Beach State in the season opener.
  • USF took a season-high 40 3-point field goal attempts, eight players attempted at least one 3-point field goal.
