SAN FRANCISCO – Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President, Emily Laskin, takes her place in the Dons Spotlight in this segment of "Behind the Mask," USF's monthly cable television show.
The junior from Elk Grove, Calif., has utilized her multi-faceted skill set and leadership with SAAC to bring a unique concept to life. After a league-wide SAAC meeting in the fall, the group of 20 West Coast Conference student-athletes discussed creating and producing REPRESENT videos for each member institution.
REPRESENT is one of two initiatives the SAAC Strategic Plan focuses on which reflects the student-athletes' and Conferences' values. REPRESENT supports the community service opportunities and promotion of positive sportsmanship by leading with honesty, integrity and respect and encouraging involvement in philanthropic activities throughout the student-athlete population at each member institution.
Using her background as a video intern for the USF athletics department, Laskin took on the challenge head-on, writing her own script, filming and editing a video which incorporates not only the WCC's focus on REPRESENT, but also integrates the Four Pillars and core values held by USF.
"Being a Don, representing my school, representing my team – it's something that I've always loved," she says. "It's no longer about me, it's about who we are as a team and representing who we are as a University."
A golfer for the Dons, Laskin and her teammates are preparing for their next round on the course at the WCC Championships. The squad will tee off in pursuit of the conference title on April 20-22 at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah.
