Dons Take on Pacific In Coaches Versus Cancer Game


The University of San Francisco men's basketball wraps up a four-game home stand on Thursday night when Pacific comes to the Hilltop at 7:00 p.m.  There will be no television but fans can stream the action live on TheW.tv with Pat Olson and Jim Brovelli calling the action.

TOMORROW'S GAME
The Dons enter Thursday's contest with an 11-10 overall record and are 3-5 in the WCC.  The game against the Tigers will be the finale of a four game homestand that has seen the Dons go 1-2 so far.  Thursday's game will also serve as the Dons Coaches Versus Cancer Suits & Sneakers Game.  Head coach Kyle Smith and his staff will be wearing their sneakers to raise awareness about the fight against cancer and inspire hope. Their efforts, along with Coaches vs. Cancer supporters nationwide, will help the American Cancer Society attack cancer from every angle and provide support to millions of cancer patients living in the US today.  The Tigers come to the Hilltop the surprise team of the WCC this season, sporting a 10-11 overall record, Pacific is 5-3 in the WCC under second year head coach Damon Stoudamire. The Tigers are averaging 73.0 points per game while shooting 45.8 percent from the field.  Leading the team in scoring is junior guard Roberto Gallinat who is averaging 13.2 points per game in his first season with the Tigers.

THE SERIES
All-time the Dons own a 68-35 advantage in the series that dates back to the 1911 season.  USF is 4-1 against the Tigers over their last five meetings, and swept the season-series last year.  In the last meeting, the Dons came away with an 81-60 win over the Tigers in Stockton, Calif., on Jan. 28, 2017.  The Dons are 9-1 against the Tigers since they joined the WCC in 2013-14, the lone win for the Tigers came in Stockton on Feb. 25, 2016 79-70.  The Dons have won five-straight over the Tigers are War Memorial at the Sobrato Center, and are 40-8 against the Tigers all-time at home.
 
UP NEXT
The Dons begin a three-game road trip, starting with a flight to the Pacific Northwest to take on Gonzaga in Spokane at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.  Next week, the Dons will remain on the road but stay in the Bay Area taking on Saint Mary's and Santa Clara on Feb. 1st and 3rd.
