Sunday's contest will be the third time in program history the Dons have faced the Blackbirds. All-time LIU Brooklyn owns a 2-0 advantage in the series that dates back to Dec. 26, 1949 when the Dons took on the Blackbirds in Madison Square Garden. In that contest, the Dons lost Hall of Fame center Joe McNamee went down with a broken wrist.
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS
The 2017-18 defending Northeast Conference champion LIU Brooklyn men's basketball team was picked to finish third in the NEC in 2018-19, according to the league's coaches' poll. Senior guard/forward Raiquan Clark was named to the Preseason All-NEC Team. The Blackbirds are 3-0 with wins over College of New Rochelle (107-76), Brown (83-81) and Fairfield (89-87). Leading the team in scoring is Clark who is averaging 23.0 points per game, he is one of five Blackbirds averaging 10 or more a game.
LAST GAME AGAINST LIU BROOKLYN
The last time these two teams faced, LIU Brooklyn made the return trip to the West Coast on Jan. 26, 1951. That night, the Blackbirds came away with a 58-52 win over the Dons who led by first year head coach and Hall of Famer, Phil Woolpert. The Dons finished that season 9-17.
