Dons Go Low in Final Round of Tournament

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Bouncing back from a rough second round, the University of San Francisco men's golf team posted a personal best round at the final day of the Saint Mary's Invitational located at Poppy Hills Golf Course.
USF finished the tournament in ninth place with a 12-over 864 (285-297-282). On Wednesday, USF roared back, shooting a 282, the third lowest round of the day by all teams. Two Dons finished in the top-15 and were led by Tim Widing who skyrocketed up the leaderboard on the final day to finish tied for sixth.
Widing finished with a three-day score of 4-under 209 (69-76-64). The final round score of 7-under helped Widing climb 30 spots on the leaderboard to secure a top-10 finish. A bogey on eight was the lone blemish on the day for Widing. Starting on the 10th tee, Widing was locked in on the first nine holes, recording five birdies, including three-straight before the turn.
Soren Lind ended his strong tournament in 15th place. The Dons' sophomore finished with a 54-hole score of 1-under 212 (68-73-71). Lind's first nine holes was strong, as he started 2-under heading into the final nine holes. For the tournament, Lind finished with 14 birdies, tied for fifth most, and just three back Widing's 17.
Alex Chin finished in third for the Dons, he wrapped up the tournament with a 12-over 225 (76-74-75). Christoffer Palsson finished just behind Chin in 72nd place with 13-over 226 (75-79-72). Toby Briggs finished behind Palsson in 77th with a three-day score of 14-over 227 (73-74-80).
USC took home the team title shooting 19-under on the final day. They finished with a 21-under 831 (290-276-265). BYU's Peter Kuest took home the individual title with a 13-under 200.

"Today was a great bounce back day," said head coach Jack Kennedy. "Tim was tremendous today and gave us a special score. Soren was very solid as he was throughout the week. We were very solid all fall and have set ourselves up to make a nice run in the Spring."

The Dons wrapped up their fall slate of tournaments on Wednesday. They will return to action in 2019 when they participate in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate hosted by Wyoming Feb. 22-24.
